Beginner's Guide to Gimp-Part 1

This guide has several things that beginners may need help with. Feel free to request anything else that you would like me to add this guide. I'd be happy to add to this guide as more people request things that they would like a beginners guide on. Beginner's Guide to Gimp-Part 2 is coming soon!

Opening an image saved on your computer to edit in gimp:

1. Click, File>Open. Find the image on your computer and press open.

Adding text to an image:

1. Click the button that says A, and click and drag your mouse on your image so it creates a box.

2. Click on the box and type your text. You can edit the font, size, and color in the toolbox on the left.

Cropping an image:

1. Click the rectangle select tool, and click and drag your mouse on the picture to create a box around the part that you want to keep.

2. Click Image>Crop to Selection.

Adding a border to an image:

1. Go to Filters>Decor>Add a Border. A second window should pop up.

2. Change the border color and size on the popup window and press okay.

Resizing an image:

1. First, make sure you only have one layer in the box on the right. If you have more than one layer, you will need to merge them together.

For example, I have 3 layers in this picture so I need to merge them together to create one.

2. To merge two or more layers together, right click a layer and click Merge Visible Layers.

3. Click the scale tool and click on the image. Another window should appear.

4. You can drag the corner to make the image smaller or larger, or you can change the width and height by typing it in the popup window. Then press scale.

Creating a new layer:

1. Click Layer>New Layer. A popup window should appear.

2. In the popup window, you can change the size of the layer and choose if you want the layer to be transparent. Press OK.
